Rd 6 U11.3 v Unanderra

Before I talk about last weekend’s U11A game I just want to put the record straight. Contrary to the rumours circulating in the UK press and abroad I have not been approached by LIVERPOOL FC for the vacant position of Coach. Much as I love and worship the Anfield Club even if they did contact me, I am happily committed to the RV U11A’s until the end of the season.

Both teams went into this game unbeaten but only one team finished with their record intact, fortunately it was Russell Vale who came out on top. Although Unanderra were cheered on by a large contingent of away supporters, it was Russell Vale who took an early lead through Jordan Errington. The game swung from one end to the other but our defence once again were in outstanding form and managed to limit Unanderra to only a few shots in the entire game. Our passing style even had the away support comparing Russell Vale to Barcelona and it was no surprise when Jordan Errington added a second goal. Then almost on the stroke of HT Unanderra pulled a goal back with an unstoppable shot form the edge of the box.

After the break Russell Vale continued to make the chances and even hit the woodwork but Unanderra had some big players and a couple of fast ones that were always threatening on the counter attack. It was one such quick break that led to the away side being awarded a penalty and given the circumstances our defender was very fortunate to remain on the pitch. As luck would have it the spot kick was pulled wide and Russell Vale played out the rest of the game without any more dramas to secure the points and go top of Division III. From a coaching perspective I believe this will be the first of many competitive games against Unanderra this season and I’m very pleased the players won this one by remaining true to our “pass & move” style of play.

N.B. The fixture list has been modified for Division III to accommodate “Thirroul & Balgownie”. I will issue the players with a new schedule at training but in the meantime you can always access the IJFA web site for the update. However the game for this coming Saturday 26 May has not changed we are still (away) to Figtree 8:30am K/O. ”Please be there at 8:00am….Thanks!”
