The long awaited start to the new season did not disappoint and for once it was Russell Vale that were first out of the traps with Hayley Waller (Capt) opening the scoring in under 2 minutes. From then on it was an avalanche of chances and goals as the Cobras knocked in 11 past Dapto but full credit to our opponents they never gave up and even managed to pull back a couple of goals.
From a coaching perspective it was very pleasing to see the goals shared around the team. Tom Curran and Ethan Johnson from defence both scored a goal each. In midfield Christian Baade Mortimer scored a hattrick, Hayley Waller and Harrison Benn both chipped in with a goal apiece. Up front Blair Dunn banged in a hattrick and Jordan Errington also scored to complete the rout. It would be wrong to only mention the goal scorers because this was well and truly a team effort. Although Brody Armour, Jack Donnelly, Clayton Walker, Baxter Bowler Prentice, Bailey Baade Mortimer and Ethan Lanarch did not get on the scoresheet they all contributed to a fine Cobras performance.
Despite the result there are still a couple of things we will need to work on at training and it will also be my job to keep the players feet firmly planted on the ground so they don’t get carried away. They still have a long season ahead of them.
