Round 1 O35W v Oak Flats

Today the Russell Vale VIPERS woman’s over 30’s had their first hit out of the season against Oak Flats at the Cawley Park Cauldron…

Oak Flats had all the looks of a tough opponent but the Vipers stepped up to the challenge with some very solid defence, With Bonser in the full back position & Tracey helping out in the other full back position we held steady with the super goalie Sheree keeping them at bay with a 5 min free shot at goal that did not touch the net……After few free kicks that obviously ref decided was a hand ball not a boob ball from the Russell Vale side , we steeped up to break the defense of the Oakflats side, both Rachael & Jen had a couple of shots at goal but were unlucky not to put it into the back of the net. With the end of 1st half approaching fast with no goals scored Oak Flat got a pure lucky shot passed the defence & goalie to put them up 1 nil at half time…….

Russell Vale re hydrated at half time and felt confident that we could come back. Linda and Patsy and Kerrie E held solid in defence and Wendy & Jodie, Cheryl proved hard to beat with strong defending & clearing the ball for Angela and the froward crew, Helen pulled a free kick just outside the box that Erin belted over the crossbar unluckily …, Renae & Laura had a few great runs into the opposition half and had corners come of their work but we were unlucky to push it into the back of the net ,unfortunately Oak Flats squeezed another passed our defence, off a lucky boot of their big midfielder ,….even though the team came out with a strong second half we thought we might be able to get a goal to keep us in the match but unfortunately the end whistle sounded before we could score ….Today’s result gives coach Paul Dunham plenty to hit them with at training on Monday & Thursday night.Well done to the VIPERS and all helpers who helped out on the day with canteen & nets….Big thanks to Tony Madoox in helping out with the paperwork & socks!!!

Many thanks to all who supported our wonderful Mums team with a great turn out of spectators and official supporters and members of the Russell Vale Community who cheered , laughed and heckled!!! … It’s fantastic to have the kids and families cheering on the Mums for a change…..The refreshments ran well till 4.30pm with the evening cool air setting in and most players were starting stiffen up quickly so hot baths & take away food were the evening challenge….

Round 1 done with the following week seeing us at home the Cawley Park Cauldron to Tarrawanna at 11am…..see you all there

Cheers Renae Walker very proud team Member

    Hi Renae,

Congratulations to you and your team for putting on an impressive 1st up performance at the Cawldron yesterday afternoon!!

From witnessing your first couple of training sessions 1st hand to what we saw yesterday, there has been enormous improvement achieved by all players over the summer months.

It was great atmosphere down there and it was great to see the kids, dads and supporters cheering the Team on.

Looking forward to a great year and many more great matches- Go the Vipers!!

    Regards
