Rd 2 U11.3 v Oak Flats

I realise Wednesday is Anzac Day but respectively I would still like to do training at the usual time Wednesday evening. I fully understand some players may have other commitments. On Saturday 28 April we are away to last season’s Division IV Champions – Warilla, not sure of the KO time yet but will confirm later in the week. Now for the match report from Rnd 2.

Rnd 2 Oak Flats away was the tale of two brothers, twins in fact. Christian Baade Mortimer set up the first goal for Blair Dunn with a brilliant defence splitting pass and Bailey Baade Mortimer deftly chipped the Oak Flats defence for Jordan Errington to run on and calmly finish for the winner.

Playing against last season’s Division IV Grand Final Winners was always going to be a tough game down at Oak Flats and that’s exactly how it turned out. Russell Vale tried hard to get their passing game going but Oak Flats applied a more physical approach and took the lead with a dubiously offside goal. However one of the things I love about this U11 team is they never give up and the Cobras perseverance was rewarded right on the stroke of HT with Blair Dunn finishing well to level the scores (1-1).

In the second half Russell Vale were playing downhill and made several good chances but the Oak Flats keeper was to up to the challenge. Then came the winning goal from Jordan Errington (1-2) which clinched the points and virtually guarantees the Cobras a spot in the July Semi Final. However this game wasn’t all about goal scorers because there were some excellent performances from Jack Donnelly and Brody Armour in the centre of defence, Baxter Bowler Prentice ran his legs off down the right flank and the safe hands of Ethan Johnson in goal also contributed to a good result from a tough away game.
