Rd 17 U11 Girls v Tarra

Russell Vale Vs Tarrawanna

After missing the opportunity to play Unanderra last due to the rain, we travelled up the road to Tarrawanna.  With a place in the semi finals guaranteed we had to keep the pressure on and remain in the top two.  We started off quite well with Samantha missing an early chance we continued to pressure the goals and take control of the game.  The centre midfield of Remi and Jasmine controlled the centre with the wide midfielders of Charlie and Isabel playing strong.  Our forwards of Samantha and Stella made plenty of space but poor finishing by a couple of players kept the score at nil all until out of the blue,  Jasmine scored a goal from inside the 18 yard box. This seemed to inspire us and we were awarded a penalty a short time later, which Jasmine took and a great save by the keeper kept the score one nil at half time.

We started the second half as we finished and our defence of Eden, Sarah, Emily and Jezebel was as strong as ever.  Our replacements our Brianna, Faith and Kyla played very strong and as a team we began to play better football.  A couple of injuries during both halves allowed us to make continual changes.  We continued to pressure the Tarrawanna goals and after a couple of goal mouth scrambles Jasmine got the important second goal.  It showed today the importance of a good goalkeeper and Tara proved that. With her only touch of the ball, after a Tarrawanna run away she  was quick of her line and closed down the player and made a good save.

After a long rest on the sideline due to a rolled ankle Samantha scored a great goal from the 18 yrd box with a good chip over the keepers head to make it three nil and assure us the three points and also a place in the top two.  Next week we play Friday night against Thirroul we can all live in hope that Figtree can beat Unanderra and if we win we can become minor premiers.  Today the girls proved that even after a two week layoff due to rain that we can still play well.  Today was a great team effort.  Well done to everyone involved today.

Cheers

Martin
