U12 Girls – The year so far

Hi everyone, yes the U12 girls are still here alive and kicking.  After a great year last year all but two girls returned Samantha who moved away and Remi who is injured.  It is good to see everyone else return.  I would like to welcome two new players Halley Waller from the U10’s and Sharnie Hocking who is in her first year. We now play against better quality teams due to us moving into a combined division of 12 teams.  The pleasing issues I have are that we can still hold our own.

So far we have beat Thirroul 3 nil, the previously undefeated Port Kembla 6 nil, and Tarrawanna 4-1.  On the down side we got beaten by Figtree 1 nil and got belted by Unanderra last year’s division one winners in U11 8 nil. Mind you we finished the game with 8 players due to injury.

On a more positive note this bunch of young girls are training hard, enjoying their soccer and improving each week.  It is a total privilege to train a bunch of girls dedicated to improving their skills.  Against Unanderra they proved that in defeat they have got guts they dug deep and ran till the end.  It was a top effort by every player that night.

We have scored a number of goals this year and this goes down to team work, no selfish players here, against Port Kembla we were lucky enough to have Stella Ross and Jasmin Wilson score hat tricks. The week after Jasmin was lucky enough to bag another hat trick.  This weekend she is going for a hat trick of hat tricks.

Yes goals win games, but without a solid defence and midfield  you can’t create goals and every player who has played has played outstanding.  As the season goes on we will improve and hopefully make the top division after grading on Rd 11.

This weekend we have a double header Friday night and Saturday afternoon, lets hope we all got our game day face on this weekend.   I would like to thank Ben and Linda for assisting and all the parents who have allowed their children to play the greatest game of all Football.

Cheers Martin.
