The U12 side entered the state cup competition, which is a knockout competition played separately to the normal Illawarra competition. The side has stepped up from div 2 to div 1 this year, and have struggled to get a result in the first four comp games. On Saturday they picked up their first win if the season with a fairly convincing 5-1 win over helensburgh. They expected a very difficult task traveling to Sydney to play Mounties who are a div 1 side from the Southern Districts competition. On top of that is was played on Mother’s Day!
As it turned out it was probably the most physical game the boys had ever played in. The Mounties boys were very hungry for the ball, and didn’t leave anything behind in the tackles. It’s probably fair to say they were under the pump for a large portion of the game. The back line of Wilson, Jacob, dean, Thomas and TK were kept extremely busy, as was braeden in goal. The Mounties strikers were off target with their shots on goal and at the end of the game were kept scoreless.
It was also a tough day at the office for the mid field of matty, Ruben, jai and mark. Jai also made a cameo appearance up front. The boys were knocked from pillar to post, but kept on going through the game which was played in pretty warm conditions.
The Sams, Jack, and Ryan tried hard when the ball came their way and spent a bit of time dropping back helping out in mid field. Matty D and Jack played a great 1-2 and Jack slotted home the only goal of the game in the first half.
All in all a great effort from the boys, played in difficult conditions, and in a style they aren’t used to. They came away with the win and are looking forward to taking their game to the next level in round 2. The results are already posted on the fnsw web site

We play Glenmore Park from the Napean competition on the 22nd may. Not sure where at this stage.
A massive thanks to the mums who gave up some of their Mother’s Day for the boys to play even more football.
Garry.
