better late than never!!!
NEWSLETTER ROUND 10
It was great to see all our Competition teams do well on the weekend. The under 13’s Boys and girls teams both achieved important victories on Friday night at home. And our 11.4’s Team had a great win against Bulli away on Saturday morning. All Teams scored 1-0 victories. Our undefeated under 11.3s team kept their winning run in tact with another comprehensive victory over Balgownie. And finally our under 15girls were unlucky against Dapto who are running second on the ladder, going down 3-0.
Cawley Park Facility Update
Over the last few weeks there has been considerable work undertaken to the electrical wiring off our sheds and canteen facilities at Cawley Park. This stage of work is now complete and we shouldn’t have any more disruptions until after the soccer season is completed when the major refurbishment of our facilities is scheduled to commence. The new roller shutter has been installed on the canteen this week and I would like to thank everyone for their patience and co-operation whilst these works have been undertaken.
Wet Weather
With the wet weather we are experiencing again early this week keep an eye on RVJFC website and also Council website (link on RVJFC website) as both these sites will have information regarding wash outs and ground closures etc. On Saturday morning tune into the local FM radio stations as they normally update all junior sports cancellations as well. Fingers crossed the weather clears and we get to play a full round of soccer! Reminder that if the ground is closed, no training or playing is permitted.
Under 13.1 State Cup Round 2
The U13.1 boys travelled up to Manly to take on St Augustine’s College in the second round of the State Cup. Unfortunately the cob-webs were still set in from the early morning wakeup call and St Augustine’s had the run of play in the first half and put in 2 scrappy goals. The boys took on the “advice” (read = spray) from Julio during the half time break and came out and played a much better, controlled, game in the second half but were unable to convert their opportunities into goals.
Parent points were spread across Ruben, TK, Lochlan and SamL. This shows that the defensive team had a lot of work to do and Jacob was no exception being kept very busy by the right sided attackers. All the boys all played well, with the midfield of Matty D and Jai working overtime without any subs. The Wilsonator, Jack, and SamM threatened when they had the ball, but came up just short.
Congratulations to St Augustine’s who will now face up against the winner of Coogee v Epping. If they win that game they are likely to play Figtree. Albion Park and Shellharbour have also made it through to the next round. It will be interesting to see how all of these teams progress through the competition.
Garry.
Well done to all the players, parents and supporters who had to endure another road trip up to Manly for a 9am kick off. The State cup is a good experience for all concerned and it will serve the team well over the coming weeks!
Cobras strike at Australian Judo Championships!
2 of our Cobras achieved great success at the Australian Judo Championships which was held at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre over the recent long weekend. Paige Walker who is a member of our under 15girls team finished an incredible 5th in the nation!! And her younger brother Clayton who is a member of our under 11.3 team came an astonishing 1st in the Nation in the under 30kg class!! Their family is very proud of both of these wonderful achievements and on behalf of the RVJFC fraternity, congratulations to both Paige and Clayton!!
