Today the lesson was not a football one rather a lesson in personal development. One thing I learnt long ago in sport is that you have to be able to manage losing because you are going to lose more times than you win. This is what makes winning so enjoyable. And that is what transpired today. We were pitted against a very good Woonona team that has been together since U6’s and trained impeccably by an old, school, football and family friend Phil Carter. He has done a wonderful job over the years moulding a very impressive and skillful team. I guess the performance of his team is what I am working toward with our boys. So today we were shown what we should be aiming at. The boys came through their personal development lesson with flying colours as I did not see one boy stop trying despite being outplayed and a large number of goals being scored against us. In regards to our football it is the best “shape” I have seen us play with and we defended very intelligently at times to stop Woonona’s relentless raids. Hopefully Bellambi will be an easier prospect next week.
