Rd 6 U13G v Figtree

Russell Vale 4 Figtree 0

The Girls enjoyed their first victory this year with a 4-0 Win over a strong Figtree Team this morning at Figtree’s home ground.  The 1st half was a very tight contest and at half time the score was locked at 0-0.

At half time we spoke about finishing the game off strongly as the last few weeks have shown that we have played well and competed in the first half but fell away in the 2nd half when the game was there to be won.

That all changed today and the girls put in 2 quality halves of soccer!!!

Our sweeper Meg was every where in defence and not only did she stop plenty of attacking raids but also time and time again got our attack flowing with quality passing to our defenders and mid fielders.

Our defenders Pamela, Sarah and Chloe were marking their players really well and moving the ball forward to our Midfielders. Their postional play is also improving and they kept their defence line very well. All girls ran all day and all have powerful kicks, which they put to great use today!

Our mid fielders covered more kilometres than an Olympic marathon runner and were everywhere today! What was most pleasing about their efforts today was the control and the quality of their passing. Jade, Candice and Jasmine were fantastic and Keely who remarked on how ordinary her left foot kick was before the game, scored and absolute screamer (really good goal..) with you guessed it- her left foot- Great work Keely!!

The girls up front Alyse, Tyla and Tarmiqua were a constant threat and Alyse- who was our captain today- scored a hat trick!! Her positional play and finishing were first class and she was well supported by both Tarmiqua and Tyla- who were both unlucky not to come away with a couple of goals.

Finally to the performance of our Goalkeeper- Hannah. Hannah bravely put her hand up at training on Thursday night and said she would give it a go on the weekend. Her efforts in goals for the very first time was Unbelievable!! She stayed in goals for both halves and her saving off goals and kicks were both great!! Great stuff Hannah!!

We welcome back Casey for our Friday night game this week and she will add plenty of class and finesse to our ever improving Team.

As we said out at Dapto a few weeks ago, the potential of this side would not be fully realised until rounds 6-8. We have girls that have not played soccer before, not played for a few years, played with a different club last year and also girls that are playing both 1 and 2 years up in age groups!

All of this meant that it was going to take a while to get our Teamwork, positional play and confidence in one another to a level that we could compete with other Teams.
That is now beginning to happen and whilst today was a great victory if we continue to apply ourselves at training and in games, there will be alot more victories like today to celebrate!!

Looking ahead to next week, we have our first Friday night game of the Year against Bulli which will be another good test. This promises to be another great match so let your family and friends know that we will be looking to them to provide plenty of support for the girls who will appreciate a healthy home crowd- to add excitement and drama to the occasion!

Training is same time, same place this week so we will see the girls down there on Thursday night.

Cheers

Michael
