Rd 5 U16.2G v Figtree

Hi All,

The under 16s Girls played against Figtree on Friday night at Cawley Park. With a big crowd starting to fill the park the girls were beginning to feel the pressure. (Lots of Boys to Impress)

We had a full squad of 17 girls available on the night for the game. Our kick off time was 7.20pm. Because we are not allowed to have 17 girls on the team sheet one of the girls had to sit out. The girl that put her hand up was Emilee. Emilee plays as central defender for the team and does a great job in that position, so thanks Emilee for putting your hand up and you were missed.

The girls are currently sitting in equal 3rd place. We have 10 teams in our comp so the girls are doing a great job to be positioned in 3rd place. They are playing really well with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss, this is a big improvement from last year. We are in a very good position so let’s keep winning girls!

Ok about the game, Figtree are currently sitting in 6th place, every time we play Figtree we play a good game of football. The game started at a very fast pace, both sides were really going for it, in stages the game was a little scrappy but as the game went on I started to breathe again. Our defence did well to hold out the Figtree forwards. The midfielders were doing there bit, passing some nice through balls up to our forwards, the forwards counter attacked several times but could not find the back of the net.

There were some moments where the girls lost concentration, but luckily with some persuasive words from Michael and I, the girls started to get back on track.

As the game continued the girls started to apply the pressure on the Figtree back line, forcing them to pass the ball back to their goalie in the 18 yard box, the goalie picked the ball up, that’s when the ref awarded a free kick to the Russell Vale girls. Ash and Madi combined well by Madi laying the ball off to Ash and she placed the ball in the back of the net. Great goal Ash.

With only 5 min to go Figtree applied the pressure once again but the Russell Vale girls held tight to take the win 1 – 0 well done girls keep up the great work!!
