Rd 3 U13G v Woonona

Our local derby was alot closer than the scoreline suggests and the Team’s performance improved noticeably from the last time these 2 Teams met.

Last time Woonona beat us 6-0 and this time it was 4-1.

Woonona scored 2 goals each half and there were a couple of lucky ones in amongst our opposition’s total. Senior referee’s on the Worlds biggest stage missed England’s goal against Germany at the World Cup that hit the cross bar and bounced over the line. Our astute referee didnt miss Woonona’s identical shot even though he was a long way from goal and was probably more persuaded by a woonona parent running the line- who with eyesight like his may find himself at the next World Cup!!

That being said Woonona were the better Team and definitely deserved their win. Their positional play was stronger than ours and they used the windy conditions better than we did in both halves. Keely scored our only goal and it was a nicely taken left foot shot at goal. Great stuff Keely!

It is great to see the continued improvement in the girls game and their undoubted skills were showcases again today against a very good Woonona side. With 5 rounds to go it is going to be a challenging run home but one that the players and supporters are certainly up for!!

Cheers

Michael
