Rd 3 U11.3 v Warilla

Match report from Rnd 3: Warilla 1 v 7 Russell Vale

With the first and second choice goalkeepers both missing for the game things were looking rather difficult before KO. Then Clayton Walker once again made the ultimate sacrifice by wearing the keepers shirt for the good of the team, in the last of our three group cup games away to Warilla (2011 Division IV Champions).

The Cobras went into the game knowing a draw would suffice to guarantee a Semi Final place in July but actually went one better by winning 1-7. First half goals from Harrison Benn, Blair Dunn and Hayley Waller (slight deflection) gave us a comfortable 1-3 HT lead. The only downside was the team went to sleep on a free kick and allowed Warilla to pull one back, obviously something we need to work on again at training.

The second half was pretty much one way traffic as the Cobras played fluent “pass & move” football adding four more goals and hitting the woodwork three times. Harrison Benn and Blair Dunn both found the back of the net again, along with Jordan Errington and Baxter Bowler Prentice. The score line reflected a fine team performance and guarantees Russell Vale pole position in the Semi Final.

From a coaching perspective it was very pleasing to see the goals evenly shared around the team and the players understand it doesn’t matter who sticks the ball in the back of the net every player contributes to the result.
