Sunday saw the Russell Vale VIPERS go up against Helensburg at the Cawley Park Cauldron for a mid morning  hit up.

The Vipers had a full squad hitting the pitch as we had players returning from injury to give ensure we had plenty of subs, throughout the game.

The starting side had Helen , Nicole , Renae , Bonser & Jen hitting up nice & quick to be in the ‘Burgs defense early in the game…Angela , Mel , Kerrie E  and Wendy held a strong midfield to keep the ‘burg out of our defense but a surprise break caught the Vipers napping & slipped between the legs of goalie Sheree to give them a 1nil break….Sheree redeemed herself by taking on a ‘burg attacker and then following her out of the box towards the corner post until the Vipers defense arrived to give support…Not long after that a high ball dropped over the goalie to bring it to 2 nil Helensburg way, and the score stayed at that until halftime.

The Vipers were treated to a half time rev up by captain Renae Walker who asked them to show some urgency and  attack the ball which saw the Vipers come out firing …..Brilliant ball passing from Rachael , Cheryl, Laura , Tracey , and Paula saw the ball hit the forward pack & Helen score an unforgettable goal that sent the bench & sidelines up in a roar! Score line reading 2 helensburg 1 Vipers … after a quick  kickoff saw the Vipers back at the goal mouth of the ‘burg to see Linda & Helen kicking away at the ‘burgs defense with Linda coming away from a lovely poppy shuffle to score another goal that the Vipers will never forget  score line reading 2/2……on the back of the last goal the Vipers found a leg and looked like scoring again only to have players called off side( thanks to a R.Vsideline ref ..Thanks Craig!!) …..full time whistle sounded at a 2/2 draw and a highlight to the Vipers season.

Thanks Max who’s still on the injured list but shows up each week to help the interchange run well timed and smoothly along with Patsy.

Again many thanks to Bonsers mum Helen who worked the canteen with her granddaughter for the entire game…..huge thanks to both Pauls who put up nets & marked out the paddock and to Mark & Craig ( the linesmen) who even if we do not agree with their decisions they still help out….without this support the Vipers would struggle each week….& coach Paul Dunham who tries very hard to deal with 20 woman 3 times a week….when most husbands struggle to deal with just 1 !!!
