Rd 11 U13.1 v Albion Park

We went into the game a bit desperate for the win. AP were in 4th spot and we were 4 points behind them, a great opportunity to close the gap and get within striking distance. The way the draw has been set up we are also due to play them again before the season ends. Most of the games in the league are going as expected so a loss would most likely see our finals hopes slip away, even though the season is only half over.

It was a pretty ordinary start to the game. It was pretty cold and the wind was howling across field. Not long after play started AP hit the back of the net and it was luckily called up for offside. The half went on and the boys were playing good football, no surprise there as they always do. Sam Miranda found the back of the net to take them into the half time break a goal up. It could have very easily been two up if we had taken one of the chances we created.

The wind dies off by the time we hit the field for the second half, and i guess it played into their long-ball game. We lost the ball in the box for 1-1 and then fell asleep straight after we had a great chance off a corner, the ball came out of the box, over half way line and their striker was away. 2-1 and then another long ball to make it 3-1.

In all it must be said a disappointing result in the context of the season, but it wasn’t as if the boys played poorly. They are certainly playing a different style to the other teams, and the results aren’t falling our way. Some little mistakes are costing dearly, but they are certainly trying hard and doing everyone proud. I’m confident they will take a couple of big scalps before the season ends. We are still in with a shot at the FSC cup, assuming we do get past Shellharbour this weekend then the dominant Figtree side away in the Semi-Final of the Cup. It’s certainly something worth striving for. Let’s hold on for the ride!
