Football South Coast is excited to announce our coaching and technical staff for 2016 for the FNSW (Mixed) Skills Acquisition Program (SAP).
FSC have held the SAP license for a number of years and with a recent license granted to the Wollongong Wolves, the South Coast like many other areas across NSW will have a number of programs in the one region. This of course means a greater opportunity for juniors to represent the region through representative football.
The program for Under 9’s, 10’s, 11’s and 12’s (boys and girls) aims to provide young players an opportunity to experience an enhanced football environment, above that provided in community football with training 3 nights a week and games played each week across NSW. Players selected in the program play exclusively for Football South Coast.
FSC has also recently been granted a FNSW Girls Only SAP License for U10 and U12 – fourteen girls will be selected via a trial process across each age group. Players selected will represent Football South Coast playing once per fortnight as part of the program in addition to their club football. Training will be held 2 nights per week prior to the commencement of the season and once per week after this. More information around trial dates will be published in due course.

U11’s
Head Coach: Jonathan Forster (AFC/FFA Advanced B Licence) and Paul Robbard (FFA Skills Training Certificate /enrolled 2016 AFC/FFA Advanced Youth C Licence)
U12’s
Head Coach: Peter Willis (AFC/FFA Advanced B Licence)
Assistant Coach Craig Thompson (FFA Skills Training Certificate /enrolled in 2016 AFC/FFA Advanced Youth C Licence)
Goalkeeping – Mitchell Blowes.(Currently attending AFC/FFA Advanced Youth C Licence)
Support Staff – Paul Morgan (FFA Skills Training Certificate)
Glenn Fontana will be the FSC SAP Technical Director assisted by Jonathan Forster the FSC Technical Director.
Trial Information
Trials for the 2016 (mixed) program will be held as follows at Ian Mc Lelland Park, Kembla Grange commencing 22nd November (Sunday). The second trial for required players will be held on Tuesday 24th November with the final trial date being Thursday 26th November. Further details of registration processes and times of trials will be published on Facebook and our website www.footballsouthcoast.com.
Playing and Training Locations
- The program will be run out of Ian Mc Lelland Park at Kembla Grange and will be the home of FSC Junior Development in 2016.
- During periods of wet weather, if Ian Mc Lelland Park is unavailable, FSC has entered into an agreement with Illawarra Sports High School where FSC will have access to the indoor courts.
- Training times will be from 4:30 to 5:45 three times per week.
Relationship with the Sydney FC Academy (as part of the FNSW National Premier League)
A memorandum of Understanding is in place between FSC and the Sydney FC Academy, who in 2016 will be part of the National Premier League (NPL) 2, junior and senior competitions.
As a result, Sydney FC coaching and technical staff will be part of the FSC SAP trial process and there will be an ongoing relationship with the FSC SAP technical and coaching staff during the year.
In addition, Glenn Fontana (FSC SAP Technical Director) has recently undertaken a role with Sydney FC as part of their talent identification program and provides a great link between the South Coast and A-League Club.
Pathways for our Juniors
The Skills Acquisition Program is an intensive training and development program for boys and girls.
Beyond the program, the South Coast offers many opportunities in terms of player pathways for those players wishing to progress their playing careers. These pathways include:
- The Wollongong Wolves and The Illawarra Stingrays are in the FNSW NPL 1 and are the representative teams for males and females respectively, based on the South Coast.
- The Sydney FC or Western Sydney Wanderers Academies who in 2016 have entered the FNSW NPL 2 competition, which have direct links to the Hyundai A –League Clubs
As part of the FNSW NPL competition for males – junior teams commence from under 13’s through to 16’s with the senior teams including U18’s, U20’s and First Grade. For females – the FNSW NPL competition is for under 13’s, 15’s, 17’s, Reserve and First Grade.
- The FSC Regional Youth League (boys only) which is a development program for players (Under 13, 14, 15 and 16) aligned with the National Curriculum to deliver a consistent football development opportunity for the young players aspiring to play Football NSW elite football.
Participants in this program play with their local clubs and undertake FSC Regional League training on a weekly basis and play each fortnight against other associations across FNSW.
- The implementation of the recent FSC U18 Competition is a great introduction to local men’s football (ie Illawarra Premier League) which is the strongest and most high profile association based competition across NSW. Many players from this league have been selected to play for NPL clubs across NSW and is considered a great local pathway for players.
Gear for 2016
Gear will include a playing strip, two training kits, a tracksuit, spray jacket, ball, polo shirt and bag. Gear Fit Out dates will be advised to selected players in due course.
